Lmaxtrix! (A Logon Matrix for Maximus v3.x)
By: Paul Earles
(To Start, Lmaxtrix is a logon Matrix for Maximus CBCS v3.x )
Well, you may be wondering why the heck anyone would want a logon matrix for
Maximus, eh? Well, a friend of mine just switched from running a Renegade
system with a logon matrix to Maximus, with the standard login. Well, this
util is just for those sysop's who want some sort of logon matrix for their
system.
I, PAUL EARLES, TAKE NO RESPONSABLE FOR THE USE OF THIS MECCA UTILITY! Nothing
major can happen, unless installed wrong!
Yes, this is a MECCA utility, NOT Mex! Now, to fully understand how this thing
works, you need to look at the .MEC file (not included with this archive) and
you will pretty much understand how it operates.
What does Lmaxtrix do?
Nice name, eh? Well, it is simpally a LOGO.MEC replacement... it will show
the user a "Matrix" type screen, with the option background stuff...
Options Available:
Logon To BBS <G>
Page The SysOp (Defaultly set from 8:00a - Midnight your time)
Goodbye (Maybe they realized what system they called <G>)
This is my 1st attempt at any "Matrix Related" Utility, so ofcourse, it sucks,
but it is cool also.
GOOD THINGS
-----------
Your user can page you off your normal default 'yell' time specified in Max,
but it isnt NEARLY as long or annoying as the tunes may get sometimes. It
just sends about 5-8 Sysopbells to the local terminal, and then gives a corn
ball little message. Anyway, other good things: It looks good, atleast I
think so :-)
BAD STUFF
---------
Yes, their is some bad stuff, but thats only because it's in MECCA, and I
don't know any MEX (if you have any of my other MEC util's, you would know
this) Here's the deal:
#1: It only comes default with 3 commands... Logon, Yell, And Goodbye
#2: It may clear the screen on remote users, but looks real good locally! <G>
#3: There is no support for the standard ARROW keys. The user presses U or
D to go, you guessed it, 'U'p or 'D'own
#4: It has a little prompt like this (_) that the user can see the u or d
input to, which kinda makes this useless, but it DOES give out the standard
Matrix login.
Trust me, just use ORACLE on it, and play with it. You'll see what I mean
about all the bad stuff, as well as all the GOOD stuff!
2 Ways to install this thing!
#1:
- Unzip this stuff, throw LMAXTRIX.BBS into your Max\Misc directory
- Just rename LMAXTRIX.BBS to LOGO.BBS
or #2
- Unzip this stuff, throw LMAXTRIX.BBS into your Max\Misc directory
- Put this in your current LOGO.MEC file, then MECCA LOGO.MEC:
[link]Misc\Lmaxtrix
This will give the user your matrix, then show them the "Logo" screen. If
the user yells, they wont see your default LOGO.MEC, or if they hang up,
they wont see it, because, well, they logged off!!!
As with most of my stuff, this archive has 1 .BBS file, 1 .DOC, and 1 .DIZ
file for faster transfers. If you need the .MEC file for Lmaxtrix, just
type this from your MAX directory:
ACCEM Misc\Lmaxtrix
This will create a file called LMAXTRIX.MEC in your MAX\MISC directory.
Well, thats it for this util. I got "REALLY" board today, and decided to
finish this up in 1 day. I did it before I went out, and about 3 hours
after I got home. Dont ask me why, I just like to get everything finished
as fast as possible.
Yes, contrary to popular belief, this COMPLEX (<G>) util is FREE!!!
All I ask is that if you use ANY of my MECCA stuff, just drop me a line and
let me know how you like it! Heck, just send me mail if you hate it! I just
wanna know which of the util's are the more popular!
